Wanting Services Outside the Agency

Sometimes you may want or need a service that your local community mental health agency does not provide.

Person-centered planning meetings are not limited to the services that are provided to you at your mental health agency. If you need a service or something else that isn't offered by your mental health provider, people (you, your allies, paid staff) can work together to find a solution or to look for resources so that you can get what you want and need.

You may want job training. The community mental health provider may or may not offer training in the type of job or position you want. You might be referred to vocational rehabilitation, Work First, or another job training program. You may want to work as an apprentice plumber or bricklayer.

You may want to return to school (high school or college). Your allies from your circle of support and your case manager can help you look for grants, scholarships and loans, or they may help you find other answers. Your natural support system may also know of others who might be willing to help.

Recovery is holistic. Something that affects one part of your life affects other parts of your life. Other agencies or programs may provide some of the support you need to help you meet your goals.
