Peer-led recovery groups

The Michigan Department of Community Health has committed resources to promote the development and expansion of peer-led group models.  Many Peers have decided to pursue advanced training and certification in particular models that are founded on principles of recovery.  This training has enabled them to facilitate a number of groups designed to help persons with mental illness learn about and advance their own recovery, and work toward improved health and wellness.  Curricula, workbooks and exercises for these groups are typically action-oriented.  They encourage participants to accept personal responsibility for seeking an improved quality of life and promote the benefits of mutual support.  Based on an intimate understanding of recovery and a wealth of challenging life experiences, Peers are uniquely qualified to facilitate these groups.

In this area of the website we provide basic information about several forms of peer-led groups that are currently available in Michigan, including WRAP, Pathways FOR-U and PATH groups.  We share information about the availability of groups and trainings for Peers who are interested in becoming group facilitators.  We also provide references links to background information about these group models as well as research and evaluation literature that documents their effectiveness.  Additional information about evidence-based, emerging and promising practices maybe found in the Recovery Resources section of this website.
