Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service, Inc. (MPAS) is looking for people from around the state to serve on its Advisory Council for services to people with mental illness. Since 1995, the Advisory Council has advised the agency about activities and issues which affect the lives of people with mental illness.

At least 60% of Advisory Council members are people who have used mental health services.

Parents with minor children with emotional impairments are also welcomed. Other members include mental health providers, attorneys and relatives of people with mental illness. All applicants must have a commitment to promoting the legal rights and personal choices of people labeled mentally ill.

Advisory Councel members serve a term of four years and currently meet approximately six times per year.  Appointments to the Advisory Council are made by the President of the MPAS Board of Directors.  Travel and child care expenses may be reimbursed.
