Mental health consumers are partnering with the Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency and Adult Well Being Services to present the Center of Healing Arts, Recovery, Growth and Empowerment (CHARGE).  This innovative project provides persons in recovery opportunities to express themselves through a variety of creative media including art, music, poetry, story telling and more.

The mission of CHARGE is to build a diverse community of people in recovery where creativity, emotional expression, growth, support and healing thrive.  CHARGE will offer a safe haven for people living with mental illnesses to explore self-expression as a means of recovery.  Consumers will provide guidance and mentorship, helping individuals to develop their talents and determine what role they would like artistic expression to play in their recovery.

CHARGE organizers are in the process of developing a space that will be equipped with art supplies, musical instruments, video and audio equipment.  In addition to hosting workshops and activities for people in recovery, this space will also serve as a venue for performances and exhibits.  Speakers, workshops and performances will be available upon request.
