Stephanie Harris, a student at the University of Michigan, School of Social Work with a concentration in Community Organization, completes her placement with the MRCE this month. Stephanie played an integral role in helping to organize and web cast the first town hall meeting co-hosted by the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Recovery Council on May 16, 2008. She was also instrumental in helping to organize the site map and gather information for the MRCE web site www.mirecovery.org.
During the past year Stephanie had the privilege to meet a number of dedicated consumers, state and local leaders while serving as a liaison to the MRCE.
"Being an intern with the MRCE, meeting and working with consumer leaders and others throughout the state, has been one of the greatest learning experiences I have had throughout my education. This has been an exciting project to work on and one that I know can create lasting change. Although I am sad that I won't be working directly with the MRCE, I plan to stay informed about mental health recovery and I am excited to see the changes that are made as a result of this effort."
Stephanie has made significant contributions to the MRCE. She was the first of what we hope will be many University of Michigan Social Work Students who will participate in transforming the Michigan mental health system through their work with the MRCE. We are committed to placing a new student each year. Recruitment efforts for 2009 are underway.
Please join us in thanking Stephanie Harris for her work and congratulating her on her upcoming graduation.
