 Power of Peer Support

On Monday, March 14th more than 200 people, including Certified Peer Support Specialists and other interested individuals from across Michigan, took part in the “Power of Peer Support,” a town hall event hosted by the Michigan Recovery Council and co-sponsored by the the Michigan Department of Community Health. The town hall provided a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the work Peers are doing across the state to transform Michigan's community mental health system. It also provided an opportunity for participants to utilize state of the art technology to bring a virtual community of mental health stakeholders closer together.

If you missed the town hall meeting, please click on the video to right. The agenda, handouts and slides from the event are also available below.

 Expressions Of The Journey

Explore the creative and personal expressions of others in recovery. Look, listen, and be inspired by the voices of mental health consumers and consumer leaders.

The Recovery Band, featuring vocalist D.C. Holiday, was recorded at the River Rouge Farmers' Market in River Rouge, Michigan on Saturday, August 13th, 2011. The band generously donated their time and talents to support the new market which is operated by the Downriver Delta CDC, and is run by volunteers, most of whom are persons in recovery.

"Having once walked in hopelessness, we have a duty to spread hope to those who are where we used to be. When done correctly in combination with Peer Support, the arts have the power to heal. The Recovery Band and CHARGE (the Center of Healing Arts, Recovery, Growth & Empowerment) use the talents of folks in recovery as a way of providing self-esteem and fighting stigma."

- Gerald Butler, CHARGE Founder and Recovery Band leader
