St. Ignace Groups

This is for the question posted on 8/23 about groups in or around St. Ignace. I am a peer support in Manistique, and yes, there are currently a couple of groups in the St. Ignace area. I know for sure that one is a WRAP group. They are awesome! I do not know the # for the St. Ignace office, but the phone book should have the #, or you can call the 800 # for Hiawatha Behavioral Health and ask to be transferred to the St. Ignace office. You can also phone the Manistique office @ 906-341-2144 and ask to be transferred to that office. Good luck!!

Good afternoon, I would like to become a certified peer support specialist. I have been searching the internet for training to obtain certifications but have been unable to obtain any information. Can you please help me get started. I am a recovering person, that has been sober 20 years. Now its time for me to help someone else to obtain their potential, and improve their quality of life. Power Day 2011

Power Day 2011 will take place on September 14th from 11:30 -2:00. It will take place on the Capital lawn in Lansing. The theme for this year is "Resiliency to Recovery". Power Day is sponered by USPRA-Michigan (formerly known as MIAPSRS) and is a legislative information day in which we encourage People from Michigan to contact their legislators regarding legislation about Mental Health. We will have 6 speakers and will be presenting the Phyllis Levine award to a deserving legislator who has impacting Mental Health leglation in a positve manner. Press Release USPRA-MICHIGAN POWER DAY Michigan State Capital East Lawn September 14, 2011 USPRA-MI (formerly MIAPSRS) is proud to sponsor Power Day 2011. Our theme this year is Resiliency to Recovery. No one in Michigan is unaffected by our dismal economy and we must remind our legislators about the importance of mental health programs that work and the social justice behind equity in mental health care. Everyone involved in mental health is acutely aware of the concerns and issues we are facing in mental health financing. With Power Day, USPRA-MI is hoping to emphasize that psychosocial services do help people achieve recovery and that people with mental illness represent a large, untapped resource for our state. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. The rally will be held from 12 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will feature dynamic speakers from around the state, as well as the presentation of the Phyllis Levine Award for Legislative Advocacy to a legislator who has demonstrated leadership in mental health advocacy.

HI Deb. Thanks for your question. When the database that supports the Find Services in Your Area search function was developed, we decided not to include the physical address of each community mental health center. We wanted to keep it simple.  We thought it might be best to highlight access numbers instead, encouraging callers to receive directions to the appropriate service locations from access center staff. That being said, it is possible to create new fields within the database to include multiple office locations.

Do you know if anyone in Michigan is offering a warm line, as an alternative to a crisis line? I've seen this offered in other states by peers and/or clubhouses.

Peer provider or consumer ran services

Are there monies available within the state or surrounding states to help open a peer provider agency? What are the ins and outs, and basically the loop holes that have to be jump through to be able to operate a peer run agency? This would offer peer support services without the stigma of being attached to a CMH or mental health facility.

I am interested in finding out what the average hourly rate that is being paid to a Certified Peer Support Specialist in Michigan. Any additional information you have on CPSS compensation would be apprecaited. Thanks.

Although MDCH would like to collect this information in the future, we are not currently aware of anyone who is tracking it. We do know, however, hourly rates for Peers vary widely.

April 25-26 COD Conference

The Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Association of CMH Boards are pleased to announce Michigan's 3rd Annual Statewide conference on integrated services for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Building upon the foundations laid by the first two COD conferences, which drew 320 attendees in 2009 and 400 in 2010, there are 550 participants already registered for the 2011 event, held at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn at 600 Town Center Drive in Dearborn, MI, 48126. We are very pleased to share that individuals with lived recovery experience actively participated in planning the conference, and are presenting or co-presenting in over half of the featured workshops or plenaries. A good deal of the information that is presented at the conference will also be posted to the MACMHB website so if you aren't able to attend, please visit  www.macmhb.org in May to check out the proceedings.
